Edwin “Ned” Buckley passed away peacefully at the age of 96 in Columbus, Ohio. Ned was born in Irwin, Pennsylvania to the late Romayne and Carl Buckley. At 17, Ned enlisted early in the U.S. Navy where he served in WWII in the South Pacific. While serving, he wrote letters to his mother about his dreams to get married, have a big family, and start his own business. He accomplished all three. Ned graduated with an engineering degree from Penn State in 1950, married the love of his life, Isabel “Ibby” and built a family of five kids. Ned was a founding partner at Scheeser Buckley Mayfield engineering firm where they designed mechanical systems in many hospitals and universities throughout Ohio. Living many years in Manchester, Ohio, Ned was an active member of the Manchester United Methodist Church where he served in the “unofficial” men’s group, and as an usher. Once retired, Ned and Ibby moved to Medina, Ohio and spent their golden years RVing across the country, boating on Lake Erie, and drinking sweet tea with friends and family on their deck. Ned was an avid fly fisherman who loved to be in nature, and a talented watercolor artist. Besides his wife, his other true love was Penn State football where every fall Saturday was spent either at State College or yelling at the TV for better defense. Ned is now finally able to join Ibby on the dance floor in heaven. He was preceded in death by wife of 67 years Ibby Buckley and son Scott Buckley of Seminole, FL. Ned is survived by daughters Judith Nicholson (Mark) of Westerville, OH; Susanne Buckley (Julia) of Columbus, OH; sons Mark Buckley (JoAnne) of Pittsboro, NC and Eric Buckley of Cary, NC; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Private family service will be held at a later date at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Any contributions in Ned’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Arrangements entrusted to SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST.
