

Eldridge Edward Maddy "Ed" of Gahanna joined his parents W.B & Lillie Maddy & nephew, J.B. Smith in Heaven on January 4, 2011. He was born October 15, 1936 in Raleigh County WV and graduated from Shady Springs High School in 1954 where he played football. After a brief stay in Michigan, he joined EMH&T in early 1955 as a crew member. He was on the survey crew in the field for six years and was mentored by highly skilled and regarded surveyor "Wib" Mechwart. While his mentor positively influenced his development as a world-class surveyor and businessman, just importantly he learned that his expertise could have a positive and lasting influence on the community around him. In 1960 he went into the office and managed the department becoming the chief surveyor in 1973. In 1981 he became the managing partner of EMH&T until his retirement in 2000. Ed made countless contributions to many of the most important development projects in the area over the decades of his leadership. During his tenure, Ed was involved in the design and development of many major golf course communities such as New Albany, Wedgewood and Jefferson. After his retirement from EMH&T he continued working in the family business, Brookewood Builders & Developers. With them, he redeveloped and remodeled countless properties and buildings in Olde-Gahanna in the many years before the recent large-scale redevelopment. Ed provided his time, money, expertise and energy to an area that he held dear. Ed was a member of PLSO, The BIA, and a lifelong member of the Engineer's Club of Columbus. He was also a founding director of Benchmark Bank. He leaves behind his bride of 55 years, Nancy Payne Maddy, his children, Douglas Edward Maddy and Sandra Annete Maddy-Weber, son in law Chris Weber and grandchildren: Logan, Taylor & Derek Maddy & Josie Weber. In addition, his sister Ann Maddy Smith, brother in law Danny Smith and niece Autumn Renee Smith of Harpers Ferry, WV along with brother & sister in laws, Kenneth & Ann Payne of Raleigh County WV also Nieces & nephew: Donna Hicks, Patty Hootman, Paula Volpe, Pam Smith, Paul Payne and Kay Peters and cousins Chuck & Charlotte Rees. He was also preceeded by his grandparents, E.E. Maddy & Lucinda Maddy Rees and Ed & Sadie Kincaid. Visitation to be held on Thursday, Jan 6 from 5-8pm with the funeral on Friday, Jan 7 at 11am at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230.
