

Eleanor Bailey Hyatt was born August 18, 1930 in Columbus to the late Florence (Paynter) Bailey and Mark Scott Bailey. She died Wednesday, June 20, 2018. Known to most as "Bunny," she graduated from North High School in 1948, and The Ohio State University where she became a member of the Chi Omega sorority. While at Ohio State she met the love of her life, Chuck Hyatt. They were married on October 17, 1953, and had two children, Lynne and Brad. Bunny first worked as a secretary in a law office on the 33rd floor of the Lincoln LeVeque Tower downtown. After raising their young children, she became the secretary of the Upper Arlington Civic Association. Always involved with Chi Omega as an alumna, in 1975 she was asked to become the editor of Chi Omega's national magazine, The Eleusis. She thrived on this work, and greatly enjoyed traveling and meeting members from across the country and attending national conventions. In 1988 Chi Omega honored her with the President's Award for Distinguished Alumnae Service, the highest award given to a member. She was also active in the College Fraternity Editors Association, CFEA. Dedicated to her community, Bunny was honored with the Upper Arlington Rotary Club's Service Above Self Award. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she served on the altar guild and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the North High Women's Alumnae Association and the Canterbury Unit of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. In retirement Chuck and Bunny enjoyed summers at their home on Walloon Lake in Michigan. She loved to entertain, host holiday gatherings, and spend time with family and friends. Her husband, Chuck, and sister, Louise Otewalt preceded her in death. Survivors include her children and their spouses Lynne and Dave Kishler and Brad and Marilyn Hyatt; grandchildren Scott (Lauren) Hyatt, Ashley Hyatt, Kristen Hyatt, Blake (Kelly) Kishler and Emily Kishler; brother-in-law David Otewalt, sister-in-law Mary Lewis, and nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 19th from 4-7 pm at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 20th at 11:00 am at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1581 Cambridge Blvd., with Pastor Gary Brand officiating.
