

Elizabeth Irons Bishop died peacefully at home May 18, 2013, surrounded by her family. She was born in Kansas City, MO on December 12, 1916, the daughter of Frances Elizabeth and John Marshall Irons. Raised most of her early life in Philadelphia, PA, she graduated from West Philadelphia High School in 1934 and from The Methodist Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia in 1937. Married to Edward H. Bishop, M.D. in 1939, they resided in the Philadelphia area where they raised their three children, David born in 1940, Sue born in 1941 and Nancy born in 1944. Mrs. Bishop was active in leadership roles over a number of years with various hospital charities including The Pennsylvania Hospital Bargain Shop and The Pennsylvania Hospital Day and with the scouting movement. She was a member for many years of The Philadelphia Country Club. While her interests were many, her primary focus was always her family. In 1971 she and her husband moved to Chapel Hill, NC and resided there. After his death in 1995 she continued to live in Chapel Hill until 2004 when she became a resident of Columbus, Ohio. Mrs. Bishop is survived by her six children, Lynn and David Bishop of Bethlehem, NH, Sue and Peter Landman of Tempe, AZ, and Nancy and Eric Smith of Upper Arlington, OH.
