Devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Betty Halliday joined her beloved husband, Steve, in heaven on July 10, 2018. Born December 26, 1931, in Grand Rapids Michigan, she was the only child of Harry Morton and Dorothy Kunning Reynolds. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Stephen Mills Halliday. Betty spent most of her life as a Bexley resident, where she graduated from the Columbus School for Girls in 1949 and later returned to marry and raise her family. She earned an education degree from Smith College, teaching kindergarten at The Nightingale-Bamford School in New York City, before returning home to work at The Renite Company, which her father founded in 1932. Upon returning to Bexley, Betty met the love of her life, Princeton grad Steve Halliday, on the tennis court. They married in 1955 and were a match made in heaven. Together they pursued enjoyment in many common interests, including family, fun-loving friends, education, philanthropy and athletic endeavors. Betty and Steve were active members of the Columbus Country Club and Rocky Fork Hunt and Country Club where they were renowned for their “Mid-Winter” costume party attire. And celebrating July 4th fireworks with “Bebe and Boompa” was always a highlight for their grandchildren. Betty’s beauty and social graces and Steve’s sense of humor made them a most loving couple to whom others were drawn. Betty was especially welcoming to all, and her friendships spanned many states and decades. Throughout her life, Betty loved to be outdoors. She enjoyed gardening, an athletic life of tennis, paddle tennis, golf and ice-skating and many fun times in northern Michigan. Betty’s concern for others extended beyond family and friends to her work in the broader community. She was an active member of the Junior League, Twig II, Book Club, the Smith College Club of Columbus and Broad Street Presbyterian Church. She was also a former docent of the Columbus Art Museum and on the Women’s Board of both the Columbus Art Museum and Children’s Hospital. Betty is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth “Lisa” Halliday (Damon Streeter) of California, Tracy Halliday of Texas and Stephanie Giroux (Leigh) of New York, and her five grandchildren, Holly and Stephen Williams and Alexandra, Charlotte and Olivia Giroux. Betty will be dearly missed by all who have loved her beautiful spirit, her loving heart and her widespread generosity. A service will take place at SCHOEDINGER MIDTOWN CHAPEL, 229 East State Street in Columbus, Ohio, on July 28 at 11 am, followed by a reception and calling hours from 11:30 am to 1 pm Saturday. Private graveside interment at Green Lawn Cemetery. Those who wish, may make memorial contributions to The James Cancer Center at OSU, Broad Street Presbyterian Church or the Friends of Green Lawn Cemetery.
