Ellen graduated from the Columbus School for Girls and The Ohio State University with a B.A. in English Literature. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, the Junior League of Columbus, and the National League of American Pen Women, an organization that supports and promotes professional women in arts, letters, music, and allied professions. Ellen became a talented freelance writer. She wrote articles and newsletters for many magazines and organizations. She loved classical music and opera, yearly attending The Metropolitan Opera in New York City with her beloved husband, Stewart. She served for six years on the Board of Directors of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
Ellen is preceded in death by her husband Stewart McClellan Rose, M.D. (1930-2014) and survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Rose McPeak (Richard) and Katherine Kissane Rose. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Jennifer McPeak Louthan (Mark), Andrew Stewart McPeak (Angela), Derek McPeak (Sarah); nine great grandchildren: Aidan Louthan, Ava Louthan, Claire McPeak, Molly McPeak, Kelly McPeak Sweat (Bret), Joel McPeak (Layne), Aaron McPeak (Carly), Sam McPeak, Caleb McPeak; and great-great grandchild Cooper Sweat.
