

Elmer E. “Smokey” Carpenter, 85, of Grove City, passed away March 28, 2010. He was born in Hopewell, KY to the late John and Nannie Carpenter. Elmer is also preceded in death by his loving wife, Frances; sister, Jane Adkins and granddaughter, Dana Dunigan. Elmer is survived by his children, Sharon (Larry) Schilling, Jerry (Judy) Dunigan, Loy (Pollie) Dunigan, Stanley (Carolyn Denman) Dunigan, Judith Carpenter; grandchildren, Dr. Christinna (Casey) Murphy Jr., Jeffrey Schilling, Kimberly Dunigan, Jerry Dunigan, Jr., Karen (John) Johnston, Theresa (Louis) Wolfe, Tommy Dunigan, Lisa (Al) Jewell, Lori (Troy) Minturn, Loy (Dawn) Dunigan, Jr., Jeannie Vegh, Jennifer Vegh, Michelle Dunigan; 32 great-grandchildren; 4 great, great-grandchildren; sister, Lucy Harlow and brothers, Wayne (Clara) Carpenter, James E. (Nadene) Carpenter and John Carpenter, Jr. Elmer was a member of the U.A.W. Local 969 and the V.F.W. He proudly served as a paratrooper in the US Army during WWII. Elmer and Frances were breeders of Standard bred horses and raced many horses at Scioto Downs and other tracks all over this continent. Elmer will be sadly missed by his family, neighbors and special friends at the Waffle House on Stringtown Rd. Visitation will be held 2:00-4:00PM and 6:00-8:00PM Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at the SCHOEDINGER-GROVE CITY CHAPEL 3920 Broadway Grove City. Funeral service will be held 10:30AM Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church 55 Pasadena Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43228 with visitation from 9:30AM until time of service at the church.
