

Emerson James Williams, age 88, of Columbus, died Sunday, June 3, 2018 at Mt. Carmel Medical Center. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart; he also received the Combat Infantry Badge and Korean Service Medal with 3 Service Stars. He was a member of American Legion Post # 532, he was also a lifetime member of the VFW and DAV. He worked for many years as a welder and in his spare time excelled as a woodworker. Emerson was also a longtime member of Memorial Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his Beloved, Katherine Birtcher; parents, Emmason and Ella Williams; and sister, Betty Williams. He is survived by his brother, Loren Williams; niece, Susie (Bruce) Higginbotham; nephew, Ernie (Connie) Williams; "grandchildren" Donna (Robert) Johnston and Russell (Krystal Leonard) Birtcher; dear neighbors, Jim and Jean Henestofel; many great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Friends will be received from 4-7pm Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at HEART and HOPE FUNERAL HOME BY SCHOEDINGER, 3030 West Broad Street. Military Honors and Graveside Service will be rendered at 10:00am Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the Mausoleum Chapel of Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5600 East Broad Street.
