

Emma Louise Matz, age 93, passed from this life in the presence of her family on April 21, 2018. Born on December 7, 1924 to her parents Elmer Howard and Vera (Delay) Howard in Circleville Ohio, Louise was a lifelong resident of E. Main Street. She graduated from Circleville High School with the class of 1942. After earning a business degree from Capital University in 1944, she went to work at Lockbourne Air Force Base. In June of 1947 she married Paul R. Matz who had just returned from military duty. She retired from Hummel and Plum Insurance after 38 years of service. Louise was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Circleville, and enjoyed her work as a Good Samaritan and teaching kindergarten Sunday School for many years. She was formerly a member of the Child Conservation League, Pickaway County Republican Women and a precinct election official. She had served on the Girl Scout Council and volunteered for the American Cancer Society. Emma is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul Matz; her brother John W. Howard. Left to mourn her passing is her daughter Melissa Matz; her granddaughter Lisbeth Anne Matz; her great-granddaughter Liesel Matz; her sister Norma (Paul) Marshall; sisters-in-law, Anna Marie Howard of Michigan, Betty Heise of Amanda and Alice Matz of Florida, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 26 at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home, located at 151 East Main Street Circleville, from 4 to 8pm. Louise's funeral service will be held Friday, April 27 at Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 135 West Mound Street Circleville, at 11am with Reverend Gerhard Kraus officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Emma's honor to Trinity Lutheran Church or The Alzheimer's Association Central Ohio Chapter or a charity of choice.
