Frederick (Fritz) L. Baas, age 79, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on March 10, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents Frederick (Fritz) L. and Lucille Elliott Baas, his brothers John and Donald Baas, sisters Sally Ann Bickley and Sharon Kenney, sister-in-law Marie Baas, and his special cousin and good friend, Gary Baas. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the love of his life, his dear 'Ruthie' Ruth (Held), sons Bradley Baas and Richard (Lori Jo) Baas. His grandchildren, who brought him so much joy, Caleb Baas, Megan Baas, Brooke Bishop, Dr. Wesley Baas and fiancé Patty Sue Stuthard, Skylar Baas and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Carol Baas (Jim Clark), Claire (Wendell) Kessler, sisters-in-law Arey Baas and Barbara Yarnell, brothers-in-law Frank Held and Andy Frey, and many nieces and nephews.
Fritz was confirmed at St. Alban's Episcopal Church and a graduate of Bexley High School. He was retired from the family business, Inland Products, Inc. Fritz enjoyed the outdoors especially when hunting and his true, favorite pastime, fishing. He had many memorable fishing trips to Canada but was truly just as content sitting by an Ohio lake or family pond with his pole in the water waiting for that fish to bite. He was a Brown's fan through thick and thin, always cheering them on even though the game outcome was less than stellar. He had 32 years of AA fellowship where his friendships ran deep and he was grateful he could be of help to many. Fritz was a true believer in 'paying forward' from his life experiences and was always willing to impart his 'words of wisdom' to his children and grandchildren. We will all miss his quick smile, the twinkle in his eye when he was teasing you and his use of the word 'kid' for everyone he spoke to.
The family would like to thank Mt. Carmel Hospice for their kindness and care during Fritz's illness. A visitation will take place on Wednesday, March 17 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST FUNERAL HOME, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, from 5pm to 7pm, with a Memorial Service to follow at 7pm. A livestream of the service can be found on Fritz's webpage. If you are so inclined, memorial donations may be made to Faith Mission, 245 N Grant Ave, Columbus, OH 43215.
