Phil Hall, longtime resident of Upper Arlington, passed away peacefully July 5, 2025, with family at his side. He lived his life fully and left a mark on many people. Born in Columbus, Ohio, November 28, 1929, to Irvin W. and Helen (Barnholt) Hall, he attended St. Charles Preparatory School and The Ohio State University where he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. He served in the United States Army. He was a Registered Professional Engineer and retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation, and later as Vice President of Resource International, Inc. Phil was a longtime member of The American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM), Columbus Engineers’ Club, and the Upper Arlington Senior Men's Golf League.
With his wife of 60 years, JoAnn (d. 2013), family was at the heart of their lives. They raised five children and counseled many other couples in their preparation for marriage. They enjoyed travel, especially with family and friends. He was a gardener, a DIYer (though often with unconventional approaches), a fan of OSU Women's Basketball in particular, and all things Buckeye in general. Faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and setting an example of caring, charity, kindness, patience, and integrity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife JoAnn, sister Margaret Russell, and brother David.
He is survived by children Jim (Patricia), Michael (Beth), Susan (Lorn) Mullenix, Melissa (Joe) Storer, and Matthew (Annemarie); nine grandchildren Jessica (Alex) Niehaus, Stephanie (Drew) Pleune, Kylie (Brad) Hires, Kelsey Storer (fiancé Michael Del Casino), Michelle Hall, Sarah Hall (fiancé Loîc Bourdiau), Claire Hall (partner Gerald Guerrier), David Storer, and Ethan Hall (fiancée Cara Martyr); and two great-grandchildren Charlie and Emie Niehaus.
