After graduating from Tiffin-Columbian High School in 1960, Gary enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served in the Vietnam War. After 10 years of service, Gary was honorably discharged as a Gunnery Sergeant. As an auditor on the Inspector General’s team, Gary transitioned into an accounting career in civilian life.
Outside of his career, Gary was an avid golfer, pool shark, and bowler—often seen wearing one of his many “perfect 300” game rings. If he wasn’t participating in sports, he was watching them. From professional teams to local rec leagues, he enjoyed it all. Gary never met a stranger; within ten minutes of meeting him, you’d know all about his life—and everything about his children and grandchildren.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lucille (Smith) Weimerskirch, and his sister, Sue Ann Schatzinger, all of Tiffin, Ohio. He is survived by his ex-wife and life partner, Gloria; son, Geof (Matt) Weimerskirch of Columbus; daughter, Gio (Nathan) Cockerham of Boiling Springs, SC; grandson, Cameron Ritchey of Ypsilanti, MI; and granddaughter, Graysen Cockerham of Pembroke, NC.
His funeral services will be held privately at Schoedinger Funeral Home East in Columbus, Ohio, on Tuesday, August 5.
