

George Thomas Boft passed away unexpectedly on January 2nd, 2017. Having graduated from the Bolshoi Theater Ballet Academy, Mr. Boft danced for twenty years with the Bolshoi Ballet, eighteen years as a soloist, touring extensively across the world. Subsequently he was the ballet artistic director of the Moscow Operetta Theater for two decades and worked as a choreographer for a number of theaters across the Soviet Union, as well as in the Soviet cinema, and on Soviet television. Having immigrated to the United States Mr. Boft made Columbus, OH his home, teaching at BalletMet for a quarter century and performing in a number of the company's productions. He was a visiting instructor at Otterbein College for ten years, as well as a longtime instructor at the Straub Dance academy, and a number of other dance schools in Central Ohio. The deceased is survived by his loving wife, two sons, four grandchildren, and uncounted students whose lives he touched in seventy years of dance instruction.
