Grandpa George,
I'm glad we were able to have you in our lives.  I'm very lucky to have been able to know all of my grandparents, despite differences and distances, and consider myself lucky to have known you, to have been able to see, and to hug my grandfather.  Thank you for always being a good dad for my mom and encouraging her to succeed; we were likewise encouraged to succeed.   I remember when I was growing up, she would share letters from you and tell me stories about you from when she was a child.  I always enjoyed those stories and enjoyed the times we spent with you; all are great treasures.   Though you are now gone from this place, you will not be forgotten.  You are part of us forever. Dear Tom,
Do you remember walking me home everyday in the first grade and holding my hand tight? You were always afraid something would happen to me. You were always a kind and gentle brother. Over the years we visited often and I will cherish those visits in fond memory. My last visit with you was at the Veterans Hospital last week with my sons. I held your hand again and told you how much you were loved and missed and you cried and waved goodbye to me for the last time. I will always love you, will think kind thoughts of you and look forward to seeing you again someday in heaven.

My father, George Nelson Brokaw, was named after his great, great, great, great grandfather George who fought along side George Washington in the Revolutionary War. Dad was one of the most intelligent and sweet men I know and a hero to me. He was promoted from the first to the third grade all in the same year. He was the son of Cleveland Brokaw and Susan Stevens Brokaw .Dad was one of twelve children. Betty Jo Ann, Burle Denver, Oakley, Dwight, Edmund and Leona all died as children. Doral, Herbert, Mary, and Ruby as adults have also preceded my dad in death. He is survived by his only sibling and favorite little sister Margaret Brokaw Perkins as well as numerous nephews, nieces and Brokaw cousins. My dad served in the Army in WW II and was stationed in Little Rock Arkansas. I remember when I was 3 he bought me a beautiful bride doll with long brown curls, when I was 5 and starting kindergarten  he bought me black and white saddle oxford shoes to begin school. As a teenager he made sure I had a safe car to drive. Over the years I have relied on my Dad for guidance in becoming a young woman, the woman I am today. My Dad encouraged me to go to college and become a nurse. He was so proud of me when I graduated. I remember the times my children, husband and I spent with him and my aunts Mary and Margaret visiting. I remember him hugging his grandchildren. I remember his smile, his soft spoken voice. I remember the last request he asked me to do for him, to research our Brokaw family, to visit the family graves and become a member of the Daughters of the Revolutionary War as his direct descendant. I spent many hours and did this for him. He would be pleased to know both of his grandchildren Tracy and Trent are also college graduates. He was very proud of me and my family and we were proud of him and loved him very much. Dad I will always love you, your daughter Marilyn Kay Brokaw Hall.
