He was a 1954 graduate of Central High School where he earned straight A’s. (He was proud of this achievement and sometimes reminded his sons of this fact when they brought home grades that were further down the alphabet.)
George was a history buff and loved to go antiquing with his wife and best friend Joan. They traveled many miles and spent many hours treasure hunting for old pictures, Carnival Glassware, quilts, and old school desks that George would refinish and sell. Antiquing became a second profession for him after retiring from Columbus Worthington Air, where he was a dedicated employee for a career that began shortly after his high school graduation. George was recognized by the Air Conditioning Contractors of America Central Ohio Chapter in 1994 and he was always proud to say, “There’s not a street in Columbus that I haven’t worked on.”
George and Joan also made annual trips to Gatlinburg, TN where they loved to hike in the Smokey Mountains. They were inseparable, as he saw to every detail of their lives together. Most recently, he cared for her as she moves through the stages of Alzheimer’s Disease.
George is survived by his wife and soul mate of 59 years, Joan Jeffers; sons, Matthew Jeffers; George (Hillary) Jeffers, grandchildren, Stuart and Wesley Jeffers, and his siblings, Denver, twin sisters Delcie Hankison and Elcie Kuhn; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
