George Richard Rice

George Richard "Dick" Rice, age 83, passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at St. Ann's Hospital. He was born April 1, 1932 to the late, George Eugene and Mary Olive (Reeves) Rice in Waynesburg, PA. After Dick graduated High School he enlisted in the Navy where he served in Newfoundland and in Lakehurst, NJ. He was a graduate of Waynesburg College in Pennsylvania. Dick retired after many years of dedicated service with Motorist Insurance Company. In his retirement Dick was an avid golfer, enjoyed painting and exercising five times a week. He was a devoted member of Karl Road Baptist Church where he served in many capacities, including being a Deacon, an Usher and a greeter. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Robert E. Rice. Dick is survived by loving wife of 63 years, Shirley (Clark) Rice; children, Sharon Shipley and George (Gina) Rice, Jr.; grandsons, Josh (Fiance' Jody Dunn) Shipley and Shane (Jennifer) Shipley; great-granddaughters, Hanna Hicks, Ella, Olivia and Sophia Shipley; special friends, Judi and Ed Zeisler. Family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4pm at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Road. A memorial service will be held 11am, Monday, November 16, 2015 at Karl Road Baptist Church, 5750 Karl Road, where friends will be received from 10-11am. Private family interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Karl Road Baptist Church or Mt. Carmel Hospice.
