

Gerald A. “Jerry” Winfough, 86, of Circleville, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Pickering House in Lancaster. He was born February 23, 1926 in Circleville, the son of the late Samuel A. and Julia (Stonerock) Winfough. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and Harry Winfough and sister, Dorothy Dunton. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jane (Hancher) Winfough; his daughter, Vicki (Donald) Hamilton; grandchildren, Teresa Jane (Briley) Patterson, Jennifer Ann Hamilton and Chad Andrew (Sara) Hamilton, all of Circleville; great-grandchildren, Presley, Olivia and Savannah Patterson and McKenna, Aidan and Noah Hamilton; aunt, Winifred Hurwitz of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Ann (Carico) Winfough of Arizona and Jean (Hancher) Schiff of Ashville; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Robert Valentine; and grand – dogs, Cody, Ellie, Mellow, Tucker and Jake. Jerry was a lifelong resident of Pickaway County and graduated from Circleville High School in 1944. He was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. Jerry was a veteran of World War II, 75th Infantry 575 Signal Battalion. His unit was attached to the French 1st Army and Pattons 2nd Army. He was a life member of AMVETS Post 2256 and VFW #3331. He retired from Columbia Gas and had worked for Wagner’s Flowers. He was a past
Washington Twp. Clerk and past member of the Trustee Association and was also a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Public Employee Retirees. He also served as agent of the N&W Railroad Passenger Station until it closed and then served as a clerk at the N&W Freight Station on N. Western Avenue. An avid camper, Jerry had served as president of the Roundtown Roamers Club and then the Big Pine Campers.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Henry officiating. Burial will be in Hitler-Ludwig Cemetery with military service provided by AMVETS Post 2256 Honor Guard. Friends may call from 3:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
