Gerald “Jerry” Clyde Carter, age 74, of Gahanna, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2011. He was born in Harrisville, Ohio, on February 22, 1937, to the late Clyde and Helen Carter. After working in the coal mines, Jerry and his family moved to Gahanna. He worked for Pipe-Valves, Inc., and even after retiring, he maintained many of the relationships he made there. Always upbeat, Jerry had a painstaking work ethic and a strong sense of right and wrong. You always knew where you stood with him, and he would open his home and heart to anyone in need. He was a member of Stonybook United Methodist Church, as well as The Gideons International. He enjoyed watching Gahanna Lincoln and Ohio State sports, especially football, and doing yard work and being outdoors. But his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, watching them grow and succeed. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years and sweetheart of 60, Beverly Carter. He is survived by his son, Scott (JoAnna) Carter; grandchildren, Jeremy, Tara, and Taylor; sisters, Shirley (Ed) Moore and Carolyn (Scott) Blackburn; and other extended family members and friends. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, April 1, at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Olive Branch Cemetery in Harrisville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Heartland Hospice, 6500 Busch Blvd., #210, Columbus, Ohio 43229. Visit www.schoedinger.com to share a favorite memory of Jerry.
