My sweet Aunt Harriet will be missed by the entire Starkey family.  I could not make a trip to Circleville without stopping to visit her and Russ.  She was just about as sweet as anyone ever was.

She was like a sister to my father and uncle, a good friend to my mother and just wonderul to all of us kids.  We all loved her very much.  

I dropped by unannounced one Sunday morning with my son at 11:30 about 4 years back and I am pretty sure I woke them up.  Her and Russ had been out dancing till two in the morning the night before.  After all it was Saturday night and I remember thinking thats how I want to be living when I reach that point in my life.

The last time we really visited was in March of 2010.  I stayed the night at that wonderful old farmhouse on Ringold Southern Road and we stayed up a little late, by my standards not her and Russ's, talking about everything and anything.  At about 1:00 I realized how late it was just as she said " how about a slice of pie? Just a little one"  

Well, It would have been impolite to say no and I certainly didn't need a slice at 1:00 in the morning.  However, it was Harriet's pie and since it would be along time before I got another shot at one of those I accepted. Just for record, it wasn't small.  I had to leave early the next morning and impressed upon her and Russ that they did not need to get up, but don't you know I was awakened by the smell of bacion and toast.  

That was Aunt Harriet.

We started going to the farm as kids when we visited my grandparents and I will miss knowing she is there at that farmhouse.

At this time I want exptress our deepest synpathies to all of her family and want them to know how important she was to all of us.  We will miss her greatly.

 	My name is Dawn Blevins and Harriett will be truly missed. Her soft-spoken voice and kindness towards others are attributes so often missing in our society. Russ has lost a unique woman that brought many of us a wonderful since of joy, happiness, and warmth. I’m proud to have known her as part of our family. Words cannot express our sorrow and loss. Stephen has been a loving and strong father figure as my second dad. Through everything he has stood by my entire family as well as extended family. We love you Russ, Stephen and mom. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the Congrove and Smalley family members. We are all blessed for having Harriett as part of our lives and families. She will always be with us as a pillar of faith and guidance. Our deepest regrets,

Hello, I am Judy Smalley's sister. 
       In the few times I had the pleasure of seeing Harriett, we always hit it off. We loved talking FOOD!  :)   She sure was a great cook! 
   I have to tell you something my adult daughter (Jennifer) said after meeting Harriett...
"When I get old, I wanna be just like her"....what a compliment!  I never told Harriett that, guess I didn't want to accuse her of being old!

 I was so shocked to hear of her passing, but the first thing that came to my mind was...God blessed her in life and in death.  If we could choose a way to go, what more could you ask for?  I know she is resting in peace in God's arms.
   My deepest sympathy to Russ and Steve as well as her entire family. I wish I was able to get to the visitation but I will be there in thought & prayer.
