Harry Michael Wellnitz, age 76. It is with heavy hearts we mourn the passing of Harry M. Wellnitz, he ascended to Eternal Life on August 29, 2025. Born July 22, 1949, in Columbus, OH, Harry loved the simplicities of life and certainly never met a stranger. Harry was a devout Catholic, a God loving, God giving man.
Harry is preceded in death by his parents, John Joseph Wellnitz and Patricia Ann (Grimes) Wellnitz, bother Thomas Joseph Wellnitz and soulmate Dee (Ciminello) Carr. He will be deeply missed and survived by his sister, Mary Jane Wellnitz-Timmons, nephew Elliot Jackson (Lauren) Timmons, niece Jenna Patricia Timmons, best friend, Ted Moriarty, brother-in-law, Lance Timmons, numerous cousins from the Wellnitz and Grimes families, and dear friends near and far.
Harry played baseball for Jr. College in Florida and received his Bachelor’s degree from Franklin University. He retired from the State of Ohio following 30 years of service. Harry spread joy, a smile and a lending hand to all that came across his path. He will forever be remembered as the designated Mayor of Ganzhorn Suites, his happy place.
He enjoyed his summer trips to Lake Erie and Lake Michigan; helping friend Ted make sub sandwiches on Saturday mornings; his Thursday afternoons with friends at Roosters; and water walking with the ladies at the Upper Arlington pools. Harry never missed a day of exercise and had great friends at Lifetime Fitness. It would be fitting for Harry to be the designated bodyguard for Arnold Schwarzenegger for five years at the Arnold Classic.
Harry had a passion for, and a collection of lighthouses; the next time you seem to be lost, look for the light and know that Harry will be guiding you safely home. Harry’s greatest joy was being with those he loved and we celebrate a life well-lived. Harry, “Because I knew you, I have been changed for the good.”
The family would like to thank a few special persons that assisted Harry’s journey the past several years, Sue Kimble of Kimble Cares, Cindy Paige, Oasis Senior Advisors and Cap City Hospice, their genuine love and support is deeply appreciated.
