

Born on September 8, 1950, in Harlan County, Kentucky, to the late James Gambrel and Sarah (Toliver) Sanchez.
Hellen was a woman whose heart reflected the love of Christ. She loved Jesus deeply and shared that love through her kindness, humility, and joyful spirit. She was pure of heart, a ray of sunshine to everyone she met, and known for her spunky personality and gentle nature. Hellen had a special love for all children and embraced life with a childlike faith and compassion that made everyone feel welcome and loved. Beautiful both inside and out, she leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, unconditional love, and cherished memories.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, James Ludwig; her son, Donnie Christy; her daughters, Sarah Ludwig (John Snyder), Lida (Brad) Holley, and Darlene Ruff (Ross Wells); her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her siblings, Violet (Nathan) Dickens, Bobby (Mary) Gambrel, and Marshall (Helen) Guard; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Schoedinger East, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43232. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Union Evangelical Cemetery in Baltimore, Ohio.
