

Herbert Owen Carpenter, 83, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2016. He was born November 6, 1932 in Harrisburg, Ohio to the late Owen and Elizabeth (Neff) Carpenter. He was a graduate of West H.S. and earned his bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University in 1954. He was a former ROTC officer and employee of Armstrong Furnace Co., Abex-Dennison, Hagglund-Dennison, and Countryside Products. Longtime member of Burgess Ave. Methodist Church. Diehard OSU Buckeye fan, avid golfer and sports car enthusiast. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Neff Carpenter. Herb is survived by his wife of 35 years, Gretchen (Miller) Carpenter; children, Bruce (Jane) Carpenter, Brian (Kimberlee) Carpenter, Rita Vogel, Stephen (Carla) Vogel, and Linda (Tim) Teach; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friend, Stephen Van Kirk; and many dear friends. Memorial service will be 4:00 PM Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio with visitation one hour prior to the service.
