

Hobart M. Munsell, age 87, passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at his home in Columbus. Hobe was born on August 14, 1923 in Columbus; he was the son of the late Hobart R. and Helen (Monroe) Munsell. Hobe was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Orr, and grandson, Russell Brainard. He is survived by a large and loving family, his wife of 64 years, Mary Louise (Harrison-Walker) Munsell; children and grandchildren, Susan (Robert) Hollingshead (Eron, Kelly, Anna, Curtis, and Max), Anne Webster (Kate, Molly, Annie and John), Theodore (Kathy) Munsell (Hobie, Chris and Theo), and M.J. (Adrian Lam) Munsell (Emma); and brother, Jack (BJ) Munsell. He was a caring uncle and mentor to his many nieces and nephews and took great delight in his lifelong friendship with each of his cousins. Throughout his life, he was there to lend advice and support to all who needed him. Hobe was a long time resident of Upper Arlington, where he graduated from Arlington High School. He went on to attend Ohio State where he was a proud member of Phi Gamma Delta and received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. For his outstanding academic record he was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. During World War II, Hobe was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. After a long career in sales and marketing he retired from Chemical Bank, formerly Galbreath Mortgage, where he was a Senior Vice President in commercial mortgage banking. Hobe was a member of First Community Church; he was also a member of the Athletic Club of Columbus, OSU Golf Course, City Club and Scioto Country Club. An avid golfer well into his eighties, he continued to enjoy time on the course with his life long friends and lunches at the ACC “gravy table”. A celebration of Hobe’s life will take place on Friday, November 26th at 11 am at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Boulevard, Columbus, Ohio 43212. The family will be at the church from 10:00 am to visit with friends before the service. A reception will follow at the Athletic Club of Columbus.
