

Hollis D. Lanning, age 85, of Columbus, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2009. He was born September 30, 1924 in Churchland, NC to Walter and Letitia Lanning. Hollis was a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps., WWII, was a longtime member of Maize Road Baptist Church, and retired after 37 years of service from Nationwide Insurance Company. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Conrad and Kenneth; wife of 55 years, Grace; and son, Jerry. Hollis is survived by his loving family: wife, Rita; children: Jean (Don) Tanner, Jimmy (Debbie) Lanning and Jan (Brett) Castle; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Lanning; step-children: Michelle (Tom) Walton and Dan (Laurie) Sayre; grandchildren: Beth (Brian) Palmer, D.J., Josh and Kristin Tanner, Jason and Alex Lanning, Ryan (Melissa), Adam, and Aryn Castle; step-grandson, Alex Sayre; great grandchildren: Laura Jean and Micah Tanner, Arianna Marie and Emma Grace Castle; and dear friend, Wilber Rupe. Visitation will be held from 4-7 P.M. on Friday at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Road, where the funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 21, 2009. Son-in-law, Pastor Brett Castle will officiate. Burial to follow at Kingwood Memorial Park. Hollis’ life was a testimony to the Lord Jesus Christ, whom he loved so dearly. He was a very giving man, loved spending time with his entire family, and was there to lend a helping hand when needed. He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
