She was born in Pikeville, Kentucky to the late Kermit and Bernie May Adkins. One of 14 children, Icie is survived by her sister, Naomi Gall; and brother Palmer Adkins.
A devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she will be deeply missed by those she leaves behind. She is survived by her daughter Elaine (Ray) Martin; grandchildren Jason Adkins (Rachel), Aaron Deering (Alyx), Alivia Deering, Ray Martin Jr. (Emily), and Christopher Martin (Tiffany); her great grandchildren Blaze Adkins, Quinn Deering, Chase Martin, and Avery Martin; her nieces, nephews and their families.
She joins her husband Aaron, their son Roy and daughter Nada; and her 11 siblings.
She loved fiercely, genuinely, and unconditionally. Her sincere compassion and strong faith touched the hearts of many people. Icie and her family were founding members of North Free Will Baptist Church.
Being the oldest of fourteen children, she grew up helping to raise her brothers and sisters, then raised her own three children, then she helped raise her grandchildren. She was a natural-born caretaker and the ultimate matriarch— the glue of the family.
She didn’t ask for much. All she needed was her decaf coffee, her bible, The Price is Right, her prayer, her exercises, her word search, Judge Judy, and a home-cooked meal. She couldn’t keep herself from cooking, cleaning, and putting everyone else before herself.
Friends and family will be received from 5:00-7:00PM, Wednesday at ADVANTAGE by SCHOEDINGER NORTH, 5554 Karl Road, where her Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am, Thursday morning. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park.
Please help to honor her wishes and celebrate her life by wearing colorful clothing rather than black.
