

Ira Lee Mullins, age 86, passed away Saturday, December 18, 2010, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on September 15, 1924 to the late General and Lilly Mullins. Ira grew up in Haysi, VA. As a young man Ira proudly served his country by joining the US Army. During WWII he saw action at the Battle of the Bulge. After his military service, Ira began his career as a carpenter. His love of woodworking and creativity allowed him to become a highly sought after home builder. He has touched many lives and taught several family and friends about carpentry. Ira was a gentle man, who lived his life with dignity, compassion, and a great sense of humor. His family will forever cherish his love and companionship. He will truly be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Swank, and 2 infant children; his sisters, Betty Hay and Shirley Mondrage; brothers, Oscar, Gene and Forester Mullins. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Earlene; children, Lynn (Paul) Porter, Paula (Dennis) Wright, Ralph (Nancy) Mullins, and Kevin (Jocelyn) Mullins; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00pm, Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at the Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High St. (1/2 mile south of I-270) where the funeral service will be held immediately following at 7:00pm. Reverends Freddy Dutton and L.B. Royster officiating. Entombment will be held at Kingwood Memorial Park, at 12:00pm, Wednesday, December 22, 2010.
