

A funeral service, to celebrate the life of Irene May Burke, 76 of Newark, will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 1:00PM at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Pastor James Savage officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Irene was born in Andelusia, Alabama on August 31, 1931 to the late Noah and Leana (Peppers) May. She passed away at the Selma Markowitz Care Center on March 20, 2010.
Prior to retirement, she worked as a parts technician with the Newark Air Force Base for over 33 years. She also worked for General Motors for 17 years. She was a member of the National Association of Federal Retired Employees. She enjoyed cooking, reading, traveling to Florida, but most important in her life with spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Survivors include her four sons, William E. (Donna) Burke, Robert J. Burke, Alan C. Burke and John I. Burke, all of Newark; six grandchildren, William “Billy”, John Jr., Angel, Angela, Aaron and Travis; two sisters, Lois and Louise, both of Florida; special friend, Becky Grady; 10 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Burke in 1996; one brother, Marvin and one sister Gaynelle.
Contributions may be made in memory of Irene to Hospice of Central Ohio or the American Diabetes Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Friends may call at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark on Tuesday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM.
