It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Iris Hawkins Archie, who departed this life on February 22, 2025. Born on November 19, 1925, to Alex and Minnie Baker in Moultrie, GA. Iris was a devoted mother, a pillar of strength in her community, and a woman of unwavering faith.
A dedicated mother of eight, Iris spent her life caring for her family, working for others, and sharing her talents as a skilled cook. Her home was always filled with warmth, love, and the comforting aroma of a well-prepared meal. She was deeply involved in her church, finding joy and purpose in her faith and the fellowship of her church family.
Iris was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Minnie Baker; her father, Alex Baker; Aunt Bertha Edwards, daughter, Georgia Anne Meeks Reese; granddaughter Toya Alexander grandson Bernard Smith, Jr., grandson, Chasjuan Meeks, grandson Melvin Hawkins, Jr. , grandson Antonio Johnson, and grandson Reggie Sims, and George Hawkins, Frank Smith, Edward Archie and good friend Louis Easley. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her eight children: Helen Baker Myers, Irene Thorpe, Cathleen Hawkins, Melvin (Sarah) Hawkins, Michael (Rowenia) Hawkins, Theresa Hawkins, and Bernard Smith. She is also survived by 39 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren, and a host of great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward her strength, faith, and unwavering love.
She will be remembered for her steadfast prayers, her generosity, and her commitment to her family and community. A strong woman with deeply rooted values, Iris touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and faith.
Funeral services will be held at Schoedinger North Chapel 5554 Karl Rd Columbus, OH 43224 on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 12 Noon to 1:00PM. Guests will begin arriving at 11:00AM. The burial will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery 1000 Greenlawn Ave, Columbus, OH 43223. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory, honoring her lifelong spirit of giving and service.
