

J. Patrick Campbell, died Wednesday February 4th at Walloon Lake, Michigan a place he dearly loved and found true serenity. Pat Campbell, was born in Shreveport, LA on March 11th 1949 to John Fremont Campbell and Shirley Wallace Campbell. The son of an Air Force pilot, he grew up all over the country and around the world with extended time in Libya and Germany, before settling in Dayton, OH. While in Dayton he fulfilled an early ambition to fly and received his pilot's license by the age of 15. He graduated from Fairborn High School in Fairborn, OH and went on to Ohio University, where he graduated in 1971. Shortly after graduating from Ohio University Pat joined the Air Force and after active duty transitioned to the Ohio Air National Guard. Pat was activated for the Gulf War in 1991-1992. Pat flew combat sorties during Operation Desert Shield/Storm and received the Bronze Star and Air Medal. Pat retired as a Major after twenty years of service. Pat was the Executive Chairman of the Board of Universal Companies and prior to that serving as Chief Executive Officer. Pat was a current board member on the Board of Trustees for Ohio University and previously served as the Vice Chairman of the Ohio University Foundation. Additionally, Pat served on the Board of Directors of Rocky Brands, Inc. and The E.F. Wildermuth Foundation. Over the years Pat served on several other corporate and non-profit Board of Directors in and around Central Ohio, including Sheerer Brands, Buckeye Ranch, Pilot Dogs, and Ballet Met. From 2002 to the present, Pat has been primarily engaged in a corporate turnaround practice, private equity consulting, and was a recognized authority on financial markets in the areas of corporate structure, finance, and governance. Pat worked as a Senior Executive Vice President for The Ohio Company from 1971 to 1996 and served as a member of their Board of Directors. From January 1997 to December 2001, he held various executive positions at the Nasdaq Stock Market, including Chief Operating Officer for NASDAQ Inc. and Chairman of NASDAQ Investment Products. Pat retired as President of the NASDAQ Stock Market in December 2001. Other positions included President of Grantham University, Kansas City, MO, and Chief Technology and Chief Operating Officer of the American Stock Exchange. Pat was kind, loving, and humble. He lived by a code, "if you are going to do something, do it at the highest level and to the best of your ability, and above all, do it honorably." Pat loved to serve all those with whom he came into contact, and pushed everyone to achieve their highest level. He took responsibility and provided guidance when people needed him most and his character and values never compromised. He was a resident of Upper Arlington, OH from 1971 to 1996. Pat and his wife Ellen moved to Potomac, MD, where they were residents from 1996 to 2013, and recently retired to Northern Michigan. He was a caring husband, proud father, loving grandfather, and a dear friend to all. He loved his in-laws the Pattersons and his daughter in-laws family the Schrages. Most of all Pat enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was a proud member of The Montana Boys. He is survived by His wife, Ellen Patterson Campbell, son John Campbell of Milwaukee WI, son Chris Campbell of Valparaiso, IN, Laura Campbell (daughter-in-law), Olivia Campbell (grand daughter), Grant Campbell (grandson). Sister, Susan (Michael) Galbreath, brother, Christopher (Geraldine) Campbell, brother Michael Campbell, sister Mary Anne (Scott) Rajoppi.
