

Jack Wayne Lee, 77, Columbus, Ohio, died March 22, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born July 16, 1936, in Lima, Ohio, to Charles Eugene Lee and Miriam June (Born) Lee, both deceased. Jack enlisted in the United States Navy in 1954, served as a radar man aboard ship and was honorably discharged in 1962. He was a Realtor and Certified Property Manager for fifty years. Jack was very active in the United Methodist Church at the national, conference, district and local levels. Jack started his career in real estate as a residential sales representative for Chet Sharp Realtor in Whitehall. He began his career in commercial real estate as trust officer for Huntington Bank, vice president property management of U S Financial, Inc. Northeast, with responsibility of building the National City project in Washington, DC. that is now the Navy Yard. Jack joined Ohio National Bank as manager of property development and was promoted to vice-president of property development. He was the owners representative in building the Ohio National Bank corporate building, Broad and 4th Sts. Columbus, OH. He joined Feibel-Garek Realtors, and completed his corporate career as vice president of national and international real estate for Bordens. He was chairman of the Development Committee of Greater Columbus, and vice-president of the Building Owners and Managers Association. He was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by Dana G. Rinehart, Mayor City of Columbus for his voluntary public service as a member of the Operational and Procedural Task Force for the Development Regulation Division and Columbus Compact Corporation recognized Jack for his commitment and dedication to the revitalization of America's central city neighborhoods and support of the Columbus Empowerment Zone and The Development Initiative in the great city of Columbus, OH. He was very active in the United Methodist Church at the national level as president of the Shalom Foundation, West Ohio Conference as Associate Lay Leader and Columbus North District as Lay Leader and active on governing boards of the Mission Society and Specialized Ministries. He held many offices in his local congregations, Pataskala United Methodist Church, Bexley United Methodist Church, and Broad Street United Methodist Church. He served as President of the boards of South Side Settlement, Community Health and Nursing Service (now Life Care Alliance), and the second president of the newly formed Hospice of Columbus. He served on the Board of Trustees of Pastoral Counseling Services, Inc., Columbus, OH. He was a member of the World Methodist Council twice. He was an active progressive; and in the words of a very dear clergy friend, "he had lots of fire in his belly, eager to lend his voice and support to improve the lives of the poor, the disenfranchised: African Americans, Appalachian, the mentally ill, the hungry, the hopeless," and the GLBT community. Jack was a "Good Samaritan" when he picked up a young pregnant couple from the corner of Broad and Third, found them housing, health care, and employment. Again, when he befriended a man sitting on the Bexley UMC church steps until he died of cancer months later. Just two examples of his wonderful love of life and care for those who are poor, oppressed and lonely. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Nancy A. Lee, two daughters, Jana Lee-Harris (Jack D. Lee-Harris) and Amy McKenzie (Michael G. McKenzie),five grandsons, Tristan and Patrick Lee-Harris, Joshua, Tucker McKenzie and Zachariah McKenzie, (Kristen McKenzie), two sisters Nancy Reed (Roy) and Cathy Howell (Ron), a 'brother' Mark Feinknopf and very loved 'fence friend' neighbors, Mitchell and Beckie Brown and daughter Lindsay. A Celebration of Jack's Life will be held at Broad Street United Methodist Church, 501 East Broad St., Columbus, 43215,Lou Seipel, Minister, Saturday, April 5, 2014 with calling hour at 12:30 p.m., service 1:30 p.m., reception following immediately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack's honor to Broad St. United Methodist Church - CDF Freedom School and/or to Central Ohio Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society 2225 Citygate Dr. Suite E, Columbus, OH 43219.
