Jack was a Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of Sergeant, and was a recipient of two Purple Hearts for bravery and injuries sustained in Vietnam. Members of his Veterans' group shared with his family that when he was in Vietnam, he would buy boxes of yo-yos for the Vietnamese orphans.
Upon returning home from the war, he was an early entrepreneur, and ran several "small businesses", ran out of everything from a friend's garage, to a makeshift roadside stand. Still later, he had a carpet business and pizza shop.
If Uncle Jackie were to sum up his life in his own words, he'd probably say, "I am a person who had a great life to look back on. When I was young I felt invincible and enjoyed life to the fullest. I was not perfect and made mistakes, but I cared deeply about my family and friends. I was generous to a fault which left me hurt and used at times. I met Jean, and the two of us grew together and then we got old laughing at all the thousands of simple things that we came to enjoy, and filled our lives with happy moments."
He loved to be with family, and was always up for a picnic, reunion, or gathering of friends. He liked to buy food for the CROWD! Automobiles, boating, walleye and perch fishing on Lake Erie were among his favorite things to do. Jack loved his pets, especially his two cats, Pumpkin and Lulu, that shared his affection.
Uncle Jackie will be forever remembered for his "BIG fish" stories, smiling eyes, caring heart, loving embrace, and unconditional love. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort that he is in heaven watching over us.
