It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Strader at age 99 on Saturday, March 13, 2021. Jack is now reunited with his wife of 68 years and best friend Ruth who died in 2019. Jack was born July 29, 1921, son of the late Clarence and Janetta (Jackson) Strader. Jack grew up on his family's farm in Rushsylvania, Ohio and German Village. He graduated from South High School before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army Air Force. He attended Ohio State University and was mentored by the esteemed horticulture professor Dr. Chadwick. It was here that he met his "girl" Ruth (who also worked for Dr. Chadwick at the time). Together they graduated and built a successful family and business. It all started with a tiny store on King Ave and has grown to one of the largest garden centers in the country. Jack and Ruth shared vast knowledge, a strong work ethic and the commitment to bringing quality plant material and gardening to the entire community. Jack was a true nurseryman. He was a member of the Ohio Nursery Landscape Association, the Society of American Florists, OSU President's Club, and Slaty Hollow Trout Club. Family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Friday, March 26, 2021 at Schoedinger Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Rd. Graveside services will be held at 10 am Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Union Cemetery on Olentangy River Road followed by a memorial service beginning at 11 am at Schoedinger Northwest on Zollinger Rd.
