

James W. Barton Jr., 75, died on March 10th, 2011 surrounded by his family. He was born on April 30th, 1935 in Evanston, Illinois and grew up in Highland Park, Illinois. After graduating from the University of Michigan, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and served in an Intelligence Unit. Following honorary discharge, he returned to the University of Michigan where he received a Masters of Business Administration. His professional career included employment with Pillsbury, Keebler, and Borden. He then created Columbus Foods, Inc. which he owned and operated for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Margaret (Whitlock) Barton, and his sister Jane Barton. He is survived by his former wife Patricia N. Barton, and his children, the Reverend Anne W. Barton, Yakima WA, John N. Barton, Seattle WA, and James D. (Pamela) Barton, Brunswick, OH, as well as his three grandchildren, Joshua, Royal and Alexis Barton. He was very active in his fraternity, Beta Theta Pi, serving on the house board. He greatly enjoyed traveling the world, listening to symphonic music, and the company of his children and grandchildren. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church where a memorial service will be held on Tuesday March 15th, 2011 at 10:00am officiated by Reverend Phillip Brooks. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in his name.
