

Jim “Harts” Hartley, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10th, 2026. Jim was born in Columbus, Ohio May 2, 1934. He was preceded in death by parents, Mr. & Mrs. Clyde Burgher, Mr. & Mrs. Leslie Hartley, close friend and cousin Jack Lloyd, beloved son Trevor H. Hartley and grandson Caleb. Also, preceded by long time constant companions, Cairn Terriers, Toby MacDuff I & II.
After graduating from The Ohio State University, Jim remained in Columbus and spent his entire life in Upper Arlington. He was a member of Old North Hi Club, attended University of Wisconsin, graduate of The Ohio State University, Member Varsity “O” baseball and basketball, Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Columbus District Golf Association Board of Governors, Ohio State Golf Club.
Jim loved Upper Arlington sports and coached many football and basketball teams. He was an avid supporter of Upper Arlington High School football, basketball, baseball, and lacrosse teams and was known for supporting and organizing many team meals for the athletes and coaches. He took great pride in being able to do this. Jim was admired for his knowledge, integrity, and the life lessons he taught. He also spent much of his time playing golf and gathering for stories with the many friends he had at the OSU Golf Course and various other places around the UA community. His bright smile delivering popcorn tins and other treats was something many looked forward to every year. Jim retired from IBM after 32 years of memorable experiences with his co-workers and clients.
Survived by oldest son Lance, loving daughter Heather (Mike), close friend and cousin Gene Hartley, and wonderful grandchildren Nicole, Addison (Kelsey), Shawn, Hayden, Grace, Michael, Kel, Isabel, Tyler (Lauren), Anna, William, Jesi, Elijah, Maya, Trevor and several beautiful great grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received at Schoedinger Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Rd, for calling hours Thursday March 19th, 4:00pm – 7:00pm and celebration of life services and burial Friday March 20th at 1:00pm.
