

James H. Johnson, age 89, of Columbus, died unexpectedly at Grant Fitness Center on Monday, December 21, 2015. He was a graduate of Bexley High School, attended The Ohio State University, and was a veteran of the US Navy during WWII. Jim was owner of Johnson Shoes in Lancaster, which he opened with his father in 1955 and closed in May 2015. He was an animal lover and grateful to live near all of his children and grandchildren. Jim always said, “A sense of humor will get you through anything!” He is preceded in death by his parents, Sherburn and Margaret Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sylvia Adkison Johnson; children, Christine Johnson, Jenifer (George) Peponis; Mindy (Randy) Rausch; Jamie (Angela) Johnson, and Scott (Pam Harrison) Johnson; 9 grandchildren; 1 great grandson. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at SCHOEDINGER HILLTOP CHAPEL, 3030 West Broad Street, where friends will be received from 11:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.; interment to follow at Green Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations the Capital Area Humane Society.
