

James Emerson Ort, age 86, passed away on May 18, 2019, after a long illness. Born on October 13, 1932 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Emerson and Mary Ort. Jim is preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Ort; sisters-in-law, Marie Ort, Geraldine O'Rielly and Myra Zoog. James is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Phyllis (Zoog) Ort; daughters, Teri (Jay) Ryan and Michelle (Doug) Sarff; grandchildren, Jason (Rachel), Michael (Kellie), James Emerson Ryan, and Andrew and Allie Sarff; great-grandchildren, Ben, Grace, and Jack; brothers-in-law Pat (Bernie) O'Reilly and Ed Zoog; and many other nieces and nephews.
Jim graduated from Aquinas High School in 1950 and The Ohio State University in 1955. After graduation Jim served in the U.S. Army before starting a long successful career as a teacher/guidance counselor/coach at Olentangy, Bexley and Worthington high schools; and worked briefly in the admissions department at Ohio State. Following retirement he worked as a freshman guidance counselor at St. Charles Preparatory High School for 20 years.
Jim loved baseball, especially the Cincinnati Reds and all OSU sports. However, most importantly, Jim loved spending time with his family, especially his beloved wife, his daughters, his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who affectionately called him "Gramps".
Family and friends may call from 4-7 pm, Wednesday, May 22, at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 North High Street, Worthington Ohio, 43085. A mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, at 10 AM, At Our Lady of Peace Church, 20 East Dominion Blvd. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles Preparatory School or the charity of your choice.
