James Leonard Patterson, Jr.

Born in Wheeling, West Virginia on March 16 1955, Jim was the son of Doris Ann (Dye) Patterson and the late James Leonard Patterson, Sr. He graduated from Lakewood High School with the Class of 1973 and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves as a technician from 1972 to 1989.

Jim was a man of many passions. He loved fishing, boating, and baseball, especially making annual trips to spring training in Florida. A devoted Ohio State Buckeyes fan, he rarely missed a game. Known for his entrepreneurial spirit, Jim wore many hats throughout his life: real estate agent, private detective, and a gifted storyteller.

He was preceded in death by his father, James L. Patterson, Sr.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Rockie Lynn Boyd; his mother, Doris Patterson; his daughter, Beth Ann Patterson Parker and her husband James; son, James “Jimmy” Patterson III and his wife Marianne, and son, Levi Bowser and his wife Michele; four grandchildren; brother, Jack Patterson and his wife, Wanda; brother, Joey Patterson and his wife, Charmin; sister, Sherrie Patterson; and many loving nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Newark Memorial Gardens, 4244 Marion Rd NE, Newark, Ohio 43055.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in Jim’s memory.
