

James R. Reeves, age 89, of Columbus, passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2018. He was born in Filbert, W.Va., the son of the late Raymond K. and Annie Lee (Wagoner) Reeves. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Wanda L. Zimmerman and brothers-in-law, Leonard Zimmerman and Clifford Holcomb. A resident of Columbus for 55 years, James was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. James was a hard-working man who provided for his family and became a father figure to countless others in the neighborhood. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Alva D. Reeves; sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond D. (Darlene), Columbus, Ronald K. (Kecia) Reeves, Murfreesboro, TN, Jeffrey B. (Diane) Reeves, Columbus, J. David Reeves, Ft. Washington, MD and Gregory B (Jackie) Reeves, Ashton, MD; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucille (Harold) Ragland and Beatrice Holcomb and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends. A sergeant in the U.S. Army, he proudly served his country during the Korean War from 1950-1952. He was a 36 year employee with Battelle Memorial Institute and a 23 year employee of Columbia Gas. The family would like to thank the aides, techs and nursing staff at Columbus Colony for the loving care they have shown to James the last two years. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Antioch Baptist Church, 1015 Chambers Rd, Columbus, with The Rev. Charles E. Newman and The Rev. Victor Davis officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 -11:00 am Thursday at the church. Entombment to follow Green Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
