

James P. Smiley, 77, of Savannah Georgia, previously of Naples, Florida and formerly a long time resident of Upper Arlington, died peacefully at his home on March 6th. Survived by his wife, Delores Murphy Smiley, children; Jim Jr (Lorrie), Lynn (Rick) Santho, Joe (Cindy), Bill, Beth (Joe) Taggart, James John (JJ) and JJ’s mother , Mary Ann Smiley; grandchildren; Nicole (Jeff) Smith, Lt. Jonathan Smiley (USN) James Santho, Sarah Santho, Makenzie Eisnaugle (PFC Christopher, U.S. Army), Bailey Taggart, Alexander Santho, Casey Smiley, Sarah Smiley, Jacob Taggart, Michael Taggart, and great grandchild Taggart Smith, all of Columbus. Sisters; Barbara (Robert) Wightman of New Jersey, Sandra Leigh of Toledo and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his previous wife, Joan Smiley Throndson. Jim was a lifelong Buckeye and attended Ohio State University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was a devoted advocate for The Ohio State University and served on the President’s Club Advisory Committee and the OSU Naples Alumni Club Board, where he helped start an OSU scholarship fund for local students. His legacy is the character of his children and grandchildren, in which he instilled a zest and inner strength of life. Jim gave much, asked for little and never left anything on the table. Taken into God’s hands too early, he will be missed by his family and many friends. Until we meet again, God speed “Star”. Calling hours will be held 1:00 - 2:30 P.M.
