

Jay was born on December 19, 1951 to Andrew and Mary Yano, who survives. He graduated from Penn State and The University of Virginia law school. A former partner at Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease, and former General Counsel at Abercrombie and Fitch, he was employed as General Counsel to State Auto Insurance Companies.
Jay is also survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Anne Griffin, and their three children, Marjorie, Madeline (and her husband, Patrick McCrann), and Max, and by his grandson, Everett James McCrann. He is also survived by his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews: David and Laurie Griffin, and their sons Ryan (JoAnn), Danny and Mike; John and Jenny Griffin, and their children David, Molly and Katie Anne; Liza and Eric Gilbert, and their sons Griff, Andy, Johnny and Henry; Tara Griffin and Kevin Anderson, and their children Tom and Elena, and by his parents-in-law, Marjorie and Ed Griffin. Jay is also survived by countless dear friends.
Jay was an active member of Broad Street Presbyterian Church having served as an Ordained Elder; on the Pastor Nominating Committee that called Pastor Amy Miracle; as an Usher; on the Neighborhood Ministries Council and with countless other groups and committees. Jay was currently the Chair of the Broad Street Food Pantry. An avid (and very good) golfer and fisherman, Jay was a member of The Golf Club and Zanesfield Rod and Gun Club.
There will be an opportunity to gather with Jay's family and friends on Friday September 18, 2015 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Broad Street Presbyterian Church, 760 E. Broad Street. A memorial service will be held at Broad Street Presbyterian Church on Saturday September 19 at 10:30 a.m. A private interment will follow at the Kokosing Nature Preserve in Gambier, Ohio.
