Janine Ann Scior, 52, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Janine did not pretend to be polished. She was real, stubborn, imperfect, and unforgettable. Even in suffering, she maintained her edge — and, somehow, her humor. In the shadow of loss, we hold on to the stubborn light she carried: the belief that broken things can be mended, that love outlasts anger, and that even the fiercest souls find their rest. Born on December 1, 1973, in Columbus to Frederick and Carol Scior, Janine carried a spark from the very beginning — equal parts grit and grace, light and a little bit of thunder. In high school, Janine received training in diesel mechanics at Paul C. Hayes Technical School. She proved time and again that there was almost nothing she couldn’t dismantle, repair, and put back together. Later, she was proud to attend the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, earning her bachelor’s degree. She approached life much the same way she approached engines: fearlessly, hands-on, and without much concern for keeping things tidy. Janine was ornery in the most honest sense of the word. She loved to complain, was never shy about offering her favorite finger gesture, and possessed a legendary lack of filter. If you asked for her opinion, you got it — unvarnished and direct. Yet beneath that sharp edge was fierce loyalty, a dry wit, and a heart that, though guarded, loved deeply. A long-time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Janine’s faith was steady even when life was not. She wrestled with questions, grumbled through hardships, and still held on. In the quiet moments near the end, there was both darkness and light — the sorrow of leaving and the quiet hope of being reunited with those who had gone before her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Carol Scior; her brother, John Scior; and her nephew, Aaron Rowe. Janine leaves behind her daughter, Carolyn Ava Nibert. She is also survived by her sister, Melinda (Trent) Rowe; nephew, Lucas (Bekah) Rowe; great-niece, Aria Rowe; and her friend of 50 years, Tara, who faithfully helped care for Janine in her final days, along with the help of Bimbo.
