

Jason grew up on the family farm in Auglaize County and was mechanically gifted. While still in high school, he built a motorized tractor, and a motorized go cart from scratch for his younger brother Tim.
In the fall of 1957, Jason entered The Ohio State University where he majored in Chemistry. He pursued his musical interests and was a member of The Ohio State University Marching Band (TBDBITL) his freshman year. After graduating with honors from OSU, he decided to further his education by attending graduate school at OSU where he earned a PhD in Physical Chemistry. After earning his doctorate, he was employed by The Ohio State University where he oversaw the undergraduate chemistry labs as well as the graduate students who instructed those courses. Additionally, he coauthored two first year chemistry laboratory manuals.
Jason was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from Waynesfield-Goshen School. He was awarded a distinguished teaching award from OSU early in his teaching career as well. Jason retired from OSU in November 1999.
Jason was an avid stamp collector, beginning with the first stamp he collected in 1950. He concentrated on German stamps, and was a member of the, and Poststempelgilde e.V. for more than 55 years. His stamp collections have been donated to the American Philatelic Society and the German Philatelic Society.
He also had a keen interest in railroading, which included an HO model train layout, and Santa Fe Railroad memorabilia.
He is survived by his brother, Tim (Martha) Manchester, their three children, and their families; Karen (Caleb) Wilson (Jack, Eva, Lydia), William (Jeanette) Manchester (Oliviya, Lilli, Isaiah, Kiki), and Susan (Isaac) Manchester Gray. Jason was a supportive, generous, and present uncle for his nieces and nephew growing up, continuing that role with their families including his seven grandnephews and grandnieces.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 15th, from 1:00-3:00 PM at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road in Upper Arlington, where his Funeral Service will follow at 3:00 PM.
