

Emogene B. "Jean" Payne, born November 11, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away June 3, 2014. Jean was the daughter of the late Otto and Mary Kessler. Also preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth. She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Richard Payne; three sons, John R., Donald L. and Mark A. Payne; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Grace Cooning; brother, Ralph Kessler; and numerous nieces, nephews, as well as the many cats and animals she cared for. Jean was active in ceramics and arts and crafts and was the proprietor of "The Crafty Owl" shop. A community leader in the arts and crafts field and member of a local quilting group, and she has won several awards in ceramics and quilting. Jean was an extremely generous person and anyone who came in contact with her benefited. She was active in the Ascension Lutheran Church and supported the food bank. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1479 Morse Rd., where family will receive friends from 9 A.M. until time of service Saturday. Entombment immediately following service at Kingwood Memorial Park, Lewis Center. Arrangements by SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL.
