Jeane Mary Finney, age 100, passed away on July 3, 2026 in Columbus, Ohio. Born in Columbus on October 3, 1925, she lived her life as a devoted wife, a supportive mother and grandmother and an animal lover. She cherished her more than 50 years working in the accounting department for the Battelle Memorial Institute where she made many lifelong friends. She loved animals of all kinds but especially horses and her dogs. After retiring she enjoyed volunteering at the Columbus Zoo and loved to garden. She also found a passion for chair volleyball in her later years.
Jeane graduated from North High School and studied at The Ohio State University but considered herself a lifelong student. She enjoyed learning about new ideas and other cultures and believed in supporting her local library and newspaper. She was also an avid supporter of the Upper Arlington Swim Club, serving time as Club President while both sons swam and continued to support her grandson. She was a huge sports fan and would talk about her teams with anyone. She was a Buckeye for life and also loved her Cavs and the Bluejackets.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents: John and Mary, her husband of nearly 55 years, Donald, and her daughter, Sandra. She is survived by her two sons: Ron and Steve (Sherry) and her grandson: Matt (Heather).
A celebration of Jeane’s life will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 4:00pm at Schoedinger Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Rd, Columbus, OH 43221, with a memorial service to begin at 5:00pm.
