Jerry Lee Zigan

A memorial service, to celebrate the life of Jerry L. Zigan, 66 of Newark, will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 1:30 PM at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Heath Eagles directly after the memorial service. A private burial will be held at Smith Chapel Cemetery.

Jerry was born in Newark, Ohio on January 25, 1944, to the late Alfred E. and Elizabeth C. (Billman) Zigan. He passed away at Grant Medical Center on Monday, February 8, 2010.

Jerry graduated from Newark High School and then joined the military, proudly serving in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge after his service. He then started his career as a fireman with the Newark Fire Department. He was an avid golfer, and decided to pursue his dream in the golfing industry. He managed golf courses on military bases in Florida, New Jersey, Arizona and California for many years. He then came back home to Newark, where he spent the last 11 years as an assistant golf professional at the High Lands Golf Club, where he was well respected, and will be greatly missed. Jerry also enjoyed reading, or just sitting and chatting with family and friends. He especially loved the holidays and the togetherness. He would gladly lend a hand at a moments notice without hesitation. He loved sports, even if it was watching someone playing in the back yard. You couldn’t ask for a better brother, uncle or friend!

Survivors include his sister and his favorite brother-in-law, Barbara and Skip Hartman of Newark; very special niece and nephews, Bryan, Shawn and Shannon, all of Newark; very special friend, Connie Schlosser of Newark; daughter, Tammy of Newark; and several other nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Bruce E. Zigan; and infant son, Christopher.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jerry to Hospice of Central Ohio. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
