Jessie Junior Salyer, 89, of Whitehall, OH, went into the arms of his Heavenly Father on June 19, 2019 at Mount Carmel East Hospital surrounded by his children. He fought very hard to overcome the quick onset of heart and kidney failure. He was born on June 7, 1930, in Paintsville, KY to the late John (Logan) and Belva (Lemaster) Salyer. His mother passed at an early age so he was also raised by step-mother Donna Salyer. He is survived by the love of his life Junie (Goble) Salyer, wife of 68 years; his children Carolyn Clevenger and Robert (Karen) Salyer; his grandchildren Jennifer (Tom) Greer, Pam (Cierra) Fuller, Justin (Michelle) Clevenger, Kaylin (Matt) Stelzer, Alivia Salyer, Christina (Wesley) Clevenger and Joshua Salyer; great-grandchildren Ryan, Riley, Ava, Kinslee, Emery, Lizzie, Avery and Hadley; siblings James Everett (Helen) Salyer, Minnie Catherine (Richard) Dingledine and Lavonjalene Wilcox. He is preceded in death by son Ronald (Dean) Salyer; siblings Martha (Virginia) Estep, Betty (June) Caudill, Thelma (Irene) Crabtree, Hester (Faye) Music, Bonnie (Sue) Estep, Bobby (Gene) Lemaster, and Corvin Salyer.
Jessie certainly loved the Lord with all of his heart, soul, strength and mind. Until his last breath he was sharing his love for Jesus. He was a deacon at the Williams Road Freewill Baptist Church and Reynoldsburg Freewill Baptist Church. Jessie also served as a Sunday school teacher. He definitely lived his life for his Lord and Savior. Jessie was so devoted to his family. There was never a moment he wasn't doting on his loving wife. Jessie put God, his wife and family always first. He loved to garden whether it was flowers or vegetables. He always took pride in how he looked, never a hair out of place. Despite many trials in his life even up to his death, Jessie never complained. His faith always stayed strong in the Lord. His frequent response was always "I'm O.K." He will be deeply missed by his family and friends but know that it isn't "good-bye" but "see you soon."
Visitation services will be held at the Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna Sunday 4-7pm and Monday 12:30pm-1:30pm, funeral at 1:30pm. Interment will follow at the Glen Rest Memorial Estate, Reynoldsburg OH.
