Joan was a guiding light for many.  She will be missed.  Her spirit will live on in the lives she touched.  My thoughts and prayers are with the family.  May God bless all of you during this difficult time.

Mrs Cruikshank,
	Over the years I knew you, you were always giving the truth to people. You told me “ reach for the stars and when you get there, remember  the person who helped you, in other words if you become rich send me a check every once in awhile. Just kidding, just come back and see me if i'm still around.” You Mrs. C, were what inspired me to writ my book, I was going to read it to you when I was done, but I never got the chance. You told me “ if you want to writ don't let anyone stop you from writing, just don't write when I'm teaching.” I remember coming to your room after school and talking for hours, me and my sister Katey once keep you from a meeting but you told us “ being with you guys is way more fun than listening to the other teachers complain, just don't tell them I said that!”. It was so funny we all laughed until we cried. I remember you were always giving us peanut butter filled pretzels, they were so good the three of us ate the whole box! But what I remember most was you always telling us, “ if you want it you have to man up and work for it, if you don't deserve it than you didn't really get what you wanted did you?” You deserved all the good things you got in life, and so much more. You were the best teacher I've ever had and I miss you so much now, but as you always said,” reach for the stars and remember me when you get there.” remember me. Oh and Mrs. C, I guess you found the stars, just remember me.You are what inspired me to be a writer.  I really hope I make you proud.

I was a student of Mrs. Cruickshank when I was in 3rd grade....I am now a junior in college and I will NEVER forget how much Mrs. Cruickshank inspired me throughout my whole life thus far.  She is one of the most inspirational people that I have ever met and I am truly blessed to have had such an amazing teacher and friend.  She always pushed me to be a better person and through her high spirits day after day of coming to class and the visits I made to her when I left Horizon and went on to middle and high school she always made me feel special.  I knew that Mrs. Cruickshank and I had a special bond  when I was her student and a member of D.I...she was honestly a second mom and a role model to me.  I still picture her smiling and hugging me and telling her students "Everyone say hello to Paulina, one of my brightest and beautiful student I have had."  It warms my heart to think that Mrs. Cruickshank is in a better place with all the bling and love she could ever have, but it does truly sadden me that I could not give her one more hug or see her bright beautiful soul shining through her caring eyes and gentle being.  I love you Mrs. Cruickshank, and my heart goes out to friends and family that know what I'm talking about when I say it was truly a blessing to have such an amazing person in my life.

Remembering a dear friend & college roommate whose passing leaves a hole in my heart. That she is now dancing with Doug and Judy is looking on eases the sorrow...somewhat. Joanie, you were a dear friend, fantastic teacher, wonderful wife to Doug and I will miss the sparkle in your eyes.

Mrs. Cruickshank was Vendala's first Hilliard Horizon teacher when we transferred her in 4th grade.  She always believed and provided opportunities for Vendala through DI and other avenues of her teaching.  She was one of the best teachers we have ever encountered and no dream was too big. Now Vendala is ready to graduate and move onto College at O WU.  We shared much time and memories with Mrs. Cruickshank through dinners, theatre, parties and are heartbroken over her passing. We loved her and will miss her.  But we know she will still be cheering Vendala on from a distance.  We are lucky and felt honored to call her "our friend".  She was the BEST of the BEST - possibly that is why God took her from us too soon.  Our thoughts and prayers are with her family - and her spirit will always remain forever with us in our hearts.               Ginny, Emyle and Vendala Clark

I want to say thank you Mrs. Cruickshank for making learning fun.  Thanks for being in the book club with Jaelyn and me last year.  You are a Star just like "Stargirl"!
