

Joan Huber, long term administrator at Ohio State University, died peacefully February 20, 2026 at First Community Village in Upper Arlington, OH. Born in Bluffton, Ohio, 1925, she grew up in Wooster, graduated from Penn State in 1945, and earned a Ph.D. in Sociology at Michigan State in 1967. She taught at Notre Dame and the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana where she served as the first director of Women’s Studies and as head of the Department of Sociology. At Ohio State she served as dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, retiring there as provost in December, 1993. Preceded in death by her husband William Form in 2015, she is survived by children Nancy and Steven Rytina, stepdaughter Helen Land, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many dear friends. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
