

Joan (Jo) Hackett Lape, age 91, passed away at Wexner Heritage Village on February 10, 2017. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and devoted grandmother. Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her large family. She loved the outdoors, travel and spending time with friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert N. Lape II, parents, Isabel and Paul Hackett, and sister Kathleen (Kay) Leach. She was born on January 7, 1926 in Columbus, OH. She attended St. Joseph Academy. She graduated from The Ohio State University and the Columbus School of Practical Nursing. Jo was a dedicated nurse at Grant Hospital for 20 years. She was a member of Junior League, Pleasure Guild, Delta Gamma Sorority, Children’s Hospital Women’s Board and was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Church.
She is survived by her six children, Herb (Rene) Lape of New York, Jim (Sue) Lape of California, Cynthia (Gerny) Bellof of Florida, Sherrie Lape Huneke of California, David (Joyce) Lape of Georgia and Steve (Kris) Lape of Columbus, 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Jo is also survived by brothers-in-law, Chris (June) Creith and Jack Stephan along with many nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation from 10 am-12 pm followed by a memorial service at noon on Monday, February 20th, 2017 at SCHOEDINGER MIDTOWN CHAPEL, 229 E. State Street Columbus, Ohio 43215. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Parkinson’s research at michaeljfox.org or Nationwide Children’s Hospital at nationwidechildrens.org. Family will be having a private burial service immediately following.
