

Joan C. McDevitt, age 77, of Lewis Center, Ohio passed away peacefully on December 27, 2011. She was born December 20, 1934 in Jamaica, New York to the late Stephen and Josephine Sylva. Joan worked for many years in the Columbus Public Schools administrative offices and was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, painting, and birds, but nothing was more important to her than traditions and having her family together. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Rev. Mr. Francis McDevitt; sons, Gregory (Julia), Edwin, Kevin (Cheryl) and Michael (Amber); daughter, Christine (Jim) Smits; beloved grandchildren, Holly (Bobby) Hagen, Erin (Brad) Sibley, Aimee (Jarrod) Maille, Adam, Eric and Michael Smits, Megan Drakes, Emily, Kelli, Rhiannon, Michael and Kaitlyn McDevitt; brother, Raymond Sylva; sister-in-law, Mary (Jack) Carroll; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12pm Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 6077 Sharon Woods Blvd., Columbus, OH 43229 where family will receive friends from 11am-12pm; Fr. Charles Cotton, Celebrant; interment Kingwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth’s in Joan’s memory.
